This time last year I was a year away, and slowly but surely I was getting there.
In a year’s time, I’ll be a year further away, and still, I’ll be getting there, slowly but surely.
Looking back at today when I get where I’m going’ll make me see I’ve been toing and froing,
And all that I’ve learned and all that I’ve read did build a foundation that sharpened my head.
With the skills that I’m learning & soon I will know, I’m laying the bricks, for a road where I’ll go,
On a journey in life to the end of my days where I’ve worked and studied in so many ways.
At last, I can see, a move, a forward progression that time will just tell, that’ll make a bright future where all is so swell,
But with life that now is in such a mess, it’ll be with some blessing, a wish, and a guess.
To reach it, and touch it I’ll have to prevail, go slow and go steady just like the small snail.
Who knows where I’m going? Who wonders? Who cares? I’ll make something worth having for all of my heirs.
I have so much hope, so much purpose in mind and it’s with bated breath I do follow the grind,
But I can’t and don’t grumble at what I should do, things will work out one way and I believe in that too.
Like life, it does change like the way of the weather, the turn of a sixpence for worse or for better,
he doesn’t plan ahead, no not this here go-getter!
One day at a time, baby steps and small dashes, that makes for a certain, no need for rehashes.
Taking one’s time is the best thing to do, that’s best and the easiest for me and for you.
If we hurry and chase at those things with some speed we falter, we fail, get what we just don’t need,
and we do that so naturally, it’s us doing out of greed.
I’ve enjoyed it this evening, here making this rhyme and now I look up I have noticed the time,
I’ll be back on the morrow or a nother day, and the words’ll come easy, just like today.
