can assumptions ever be right?

People also ask

  1. What percent of assumptions are wrong?
  2. What does making assumptions mean?
  3. What are the dangers of making an assumption?
  4. How do you not assume?
What percent of assumptions are wrong? According to research conducted by Harvard, 70% of all our assumptions are wrong. Case Western University’s recent research tells us that up to 90% of the assumptions we make about other people are wrong in some way.

What does making assumptions mean? An assumption is something that you assume to be the case, even without proof. For example, people might make the assumption that you’re a nerd if you wear glasses, even though that’s not true. Or very nice.

What are the dangers of making assumption?  Why you should avoid making assumptions like the plague?

  • They’re an easy out. …
  • They stop you from taking responsibility for your life. …
  • They keep you stuck in the past. …
  • It’s lazy behaviour. …
  • They foster a negative mindset. …
  • It’s toxic behaviour. …
  • They become a bad habit. …

How do you not assume?

  1. First things first – learn how to recognise you are making them. Spend a week really watching for when you are assuming things, even writing them down. …
  2. Ask good questions about your assumptions. …
  3. Agree to not have control of everything. …
  4. Look for places you feel stuck. …
  5. Become mindful. Unbelievably I posted about mindfulness only yesterday or the day before.
What is a negative assumption?
That thought (negative assumption) caused me to think again and re-evaluate. The worst thing is that I very very rarely catch the thought before it disappears… We think we already know what will happen, based on the assumption that we’ve made. Assumptions are not necessarily true; they rarely are. They are simply habitual thoughts that stifle us.
Thank you for explaining that to me. Putting it in that way really related to my thought process, and how it gets so muddled up. With thoughts of assumptions, which I now know are thoughts of paranoia. I never realised that looking at something in a particular way can shape your thinking. Wow.
